Our personnel are trained and equipped to handle almost any situation. However, occasionally situations arise that require specialized training and equipment that most personnel do not possess. This is where our Special Operations Response Teams come in. Currently, this District has members on two such teams. They are the Trench Rescue and Water Rescue Teams. Both teams have to meet training and certification requirements set forth by the Jefferson County Fire Service and our own department. During the spring, summer, and fall months, hands on training is conducted outside. During the winter months, both teams concentrate on ropes and knots, and equipment maintenance. |

October of 1998, PRPFD had its first trench rescue in Valley Station,
and we have had one every year since, including one in South Dixie's Fire
District in 2002. All ended in a successful rescue except one. Due to
the expanded sewer construction and potential for more rescues, the Fire
District put a 24 ft trench rescue trailer into service in the spring
of 2001. This trailer complimented the county team's trailer located in
Highview Station 1. PRP's trench team has 14 career and 11 volunteer members. |
In
2002, PRPFD invested approximately $60,000 in gear and equipment to outfit
and start a water rescue team. We purchased two inflatable Zodiac boats
and converted Unit 2299 into a water rescue response van. We have the
only rescue boats on the lower pool of the Ohio River from McAlpine Dam
to the Salt River. The team is equipped to handle water rescues on rivers,
swift water streams, and in flooding. We also have members trained in
ice rescue due to the large number of lakes and ponds in our community
that freeze over during the winter months. PRP's water rescue team has 10 career and 8 volunteer members. |
